| 'Alhamduli'Allahi Rabbil-'Aalameen wa-Salaatu wa-Salaamu 'alaa Ashrafil-Anbiyaa-e-wal-Mursaleen~ Amma ba'd'
'Assalaamu `Alaykum wa Rahmatullaahi wa Barakaatuhu'. Does Anger Break The Fast? Question:- During Ramadan, if something angers a person thus while he is angry he begins to insult and curse, does this invalidate his fast or not? Answer:- That does not invalidate his fast, but it decreases his reward. Thus it is upon the Muslim to restrain himself, and guard his tongue from insults, cursing, backbiting, tale carrying and the like; things which Allah has prohibited during the fast and outside of the fast. Although during the fast these actions become more severe and it becomes more urgent for the person to guard the completeness of his fast, and to be far away from harming the people, and far away from being a cause for fitna, animosity, and division… This is based on the statement of the Messenger of Allah~ [ صلى الله عليه وسلم] فَإِذَاكَانَيَوْمُصَوْمِأَحَدِكُمْفَلَايَرْفُثْيَوْمَئِذٍوَلَايَسْخَبْفَإِنْسَابَّهُأَحَدٌأَوْقَاتَلَهُفَلْيَقُلْإِنِّيامْرُؤٌصَائِمٌ "If one of you is fasting then let him not utter obscenities that day, or raise his voice, and if anyone insults him or tries to fight him then let him say, 'Verily I am a person who is Fasting.' (Agreed upon) And with Allah lies all success and may the peace and blessings be upon our Prophet Muhammad [ صلى الله عليه وسلم]upon his family, and his companions~ 'Aameen'~ [Source: The Permanent Committee of Scholars|Translated by: Rasheed Barbee]
