Sa'd Ibn Abi Waqqas (may Allaah be pleased with him) related, "I asked the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) about the meaning of "the worshipers who are neglectful of their Prayer.' He said, "It is the delaying of performing the Prayer in its definite time."
The Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) said: 
ONE WHO DELAYS THE SALAH (PRAYER)
Salah, prayer is the most important pillar of Islam after the Shahada. Allaah warned those who neglect it or give it up.
Allaah Says (interpretation of meaning):
{Then, there has succeeded them a posterity who have given up As-Salât (the prayers) [i.e. made their Salât (prayers) to be lost, either by not offering them or by not offering them perfectly or by not offering them in their proper fixed times, etc.] and have followed lusts. So they will be thrown in Hell.} [ Surah Maryam: 59].
Most interpreters of Qur'an believe that this verse is about those who delay the prayers from their fixed time. Allaah warned them of being thrown in a valley in Hell. So neglecting prayers by delaying performing them until their fixed times expire is a major sin.
Allaah, the Most High, says,
{So woe unto those performers of salat (prayers) (hypocrites), Those who delay their salat (prayer from their stated fixed times)} [Ma'un: 4-5]

The word (Wayl) in the Ayah may refer to severe torture or it may be the name of a valley in the Hell. Were the whole mountains of the world brought in such valley it would melt because of severe heat. This is the abode of those who are not serious in Prayer unless they repent to Allaah and regret for what they have done.
The Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) said:
"This is the prayer of the hypocrite, this is the prayer of the hypocrite, this is the prayer of the hypocrite. He sits watching the sun until it is between the two horns of Shaytan. Then he stands and pecks four (Rak`ahs) and he does not remember Allaah (in them) except very little." [Bukhari, Muslim]
As for a person who intentionally delays Salah and performs it after their due time or sets the alarm for a time later than the due time so as not to wake up on time, then this is a deliberate act to miss Salah. Such a person is considered to have committed a grievous sin according to all scholars.
