English Translation of Al-Quran
[24].Surah An-Nur [The Light]
Ayat 15. When you were propagating it with your tongues, and uttering with your mouths that whereof you had no knowledge, you counted it a little thing, while with Allah it was very great.
Ayat 16. And why did you not, when you heard it, say? "It is not right for us to speak of this. Glory be to You (O Allah) this is a great lie."
[Tafseer] of ayat 15. Allah angered and said Behold, ye received it on your tongues, and said out of your mouths things of which ye had no knowledge; and ye thought it to be a light matter, while it was most serious in the sight of Allah. There are three things here reprobated by way of spiritual teaching: (1) if others speak an evil word, that is no reason why you should allow it to defile your tongue; (2) if you get a thought or suspicion which is not based on your certain knowledge, do not give it currency by giving it expression; and (3) others may think it is a small matter to speak lightly of something which blasts a person's character or reputation: in the eyes of Allah it is a most serious matter in any case, but specially when it involves the honour and reputation of pious women. further explain i ayat 16. And why did ye not, when ye heard it, say? - "It is not right of us to speak of this: Glory to Allah. this is a most serious slander!" The right course would have been to stop any further currency of false slanders by ignoring them and at least refusing to help in their circulation. The exclamation "Subh'anaka", "Praise to Thee (O Allah)", or "Glory to Allah!" is an exclamation of surprise and disavowal as much as to say, "We do not believe it! And we shall have nothing to do with you, O false slanderers!"
English Translation of Hadith
< /span>
Hazrat Aishah (May Allah be pleased with her) said: The Messenger of Allah [SAWW](PBUH) said, "I do not think that so-and-so understands anything of our Faith.''
[Al-Bukhari Book 08,Chapter 73, Hadith # 93]
Al-Bukhari said: Hazrat Al-Laith bin Saad (May Allah be pleased with him), who is one of the narrators of this Hadith, said: The two men mentioned by the Prophet [SAWW](PBUH) in this Hadith were hypocrites (i.e., they revealed Faith and concealed disbelief).
Lesson : as mentioned above in Surah An-Nur Ayat 15."you were propagating it with your tongues, and uttering with your mouths that whereof you had no knowledge," Hypocrites are also people of mischievous and doubtful conduct. It is, therefore, not only permissible but necessary to make people aware of their real position so that people become cautious about them and their religious and worldly life may remain safe from their machinations.
